Sauble Beach (June 2014)

This is a photo of a Painted Turtle, locating a spot under a pine tree.  The soil was sandy and there was poison ivy growing nearby (which I happened to put my knee on as I eagerly wanted to see this turtle up close). Her shell was flat underneath rather than slightly concave which helped with the realization that she was probably looking for a place to lay eggs.
